Longtime Toronto cannabis accessory store, HOTBOX, has been bought by Friendly Stranger.
The acquisition comes as part of Friendly Stranger’s plans to grow within Canada’s legal cannabis market and add to its iconic cannabis roster in Ontario.
“This brings together over a half-century of cannabis culture history, creating a strong fabric for legacy players and brands to thrive in Canada,” said HOTBOX founder, Abi Roach. “I look forward to new beginnings for myself and the HOTBOX crew, and I know they will be in great hands with the Friendly Stranger team.”
Roach will no longer be actively involved in HOTBOX as she fully transitions over to the Ontario Cannabis Store as a senior category manager.
Located in Toronto’s Kensington Market neighbourhood, the HOTBOX brand has served over two million customers since it opened in 2000. The company is known for its curated cannabis experiences and high-end cannabis accessories.
“We are thrilled for Abi and wish her every success in her new role,” said Friendly Stranger president, James Jesty.
A long-standing retail champion of cannabis culture, Friendly Stranger is dedicated to ongoing contribution within the Canadian cannabis market.
The company granted trademark licenses to six Ontario retail license holders at the beginning of January.
